Los Angeles Client Charged with Possession of Child Pornography--Charges Reduced

November 2015

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY: Our Los Angeles County client was arrested by the Whittier Police Department on One Count violation of Penal Code Section 311.11(a) –(Felony Possession of Child or Youth Pornography) and Five Counts violation of Penal Code Section 647(j)(3) – (Unauthorized Invasion of Privacy) and was facing prison since this was one of the largest seizures of child pornography in Whittier history. After aggressive negotiations with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and the presentation of a strong mitigation case, client plead no contest to One Count of Penal Code Section 311.11(c) – (Possession of Child Pornography with over 600 images) and One Count of Penal Code Section 647(j)(3) – (misdemeanor Unauthorized Invasion of Privacy) and all other Counts were dismissed. Client was sentenced to only felony probation and county jail time.

“The death penalty is a lie, a misguided mistake born of anger and frustration. Capital punishment has become a perverse monument to inequality, to how some lives matter and others do not. It is a violent example of how we protect and value the rich and abandon and devalue the poor. The death penalty is a grim, disturbing shadow formed by the legacy of racial apartheid and bias against the poor that condemns the disfavored among us, but corrupts us all. It’s the perverse symbol elected officials use to strengthen their ‘tough on crime’ reputations and distract us from confronting the causes of violence. It is finally the enemy of grace, redemption and all of us who recognize that each person is more than their worse act.”
